Triangle owner Yetta Saltzman announces the 2009 winner.

Winners were announced today for the 2009 Bonnie Dayan Award for Outstanding Achievement. After a few words from Triangle President David Saltzman, our owner, Yetta  Saltzman, opened an envelope to reveal the day’s first winner, Ken Morford.

Ken is a pressman at Triangle who started at the company in the spring of 1990 as a floor helper. He quickly moved up the ranks to become a press feeder and eventually second pressman. As pressman, Ken has the skills to operate all of Triangle’s Komori presses. He enjoys working at Triangle and says it’s a wonderful place to work which is why many of employees have been at Triangle for 10 or 20 years.

A second award was given today posthumously to James “Jimbo” Krawiec, a 23-year employee of Triangle who passed away in June 2008. Jim’s award was graciously accepted by his wife, Christine. Jim started out at Triangle in proofing and contacting, later moving into the stripping department. As computers became more common in the industry, Jim worked as a Scitex operator and then moved on to master prepress on the Mac. Jim was avidly involved with his family and was a coach at Oriole Park for baseball, soccer and floor hockey.

The award ceremony closed with company founder, Harvey Saltzman offering a few words about the meaning of the award, and the dedication of Triangle employees in their everyday work and in participating in the nomination of fellow employees for this prestigious award.

bonnie_awardBonnie Dayan loved life. She always gave 110% effort during her 25 years at Triangle. Ironically, she was too ill to receive her gift for 25 years of service. Bonnie never boasted about her accomplishments. On the contrary, she was there whenever an employee, friend or family member needed her help in any capacity. As a memorial to Bonnie’s spirit and energy, Triangle has created:

The Bonnie Dayan Award for Outstanding Achievement
Performance • Professionalism • Perseverance

The Bonnie Dayan Annual Achievement Award is presented to a Triangle team member demonstrating stellar performance, productivity, teamwork and positive attitude. The winner will be a person that Bonnie would have chosen. Recipients will be honored with a personalized award, the addition of their name to an award plaque, a cash bonus and a charitable donation of the honoree’s choosing made by Triangle in their name.

All Triangle employees are encouraged to participate in the nomination process. They do so by filling out a nomination form that includes a brief paragraph on who they are voting for and why they feel that person deserves the award. They also take into account such traits as: attention to detail, creativity, honesty, and professionalism. The winner will be announced in March. Last year, there was a tie. Both Ken Blakeslee and Dave Wagner were honored for their outstanding service to Triangle and had their names added to the plaque that graces the front lobby at Triangle.

We’ll be sure to highlight the winner next month.
